[backend] add some more memory debugging aids

The scheduler can how write a Devel::MAT pmat file. The memstats
event also includes statistics from glibc's malloc implementation.
(You need the Devel::MAT::Dumper and Devel::Mallinfo modules for
this, respectively.)
